Date submitted : Tuesday 6th Jan 2009 By : ?A.Desborough When visited The Hawthorns Stadium : ?Saturday 3rd Jan 2009 Event : versus Peterborough utd Comments : Comments :As an ambulant supporter, i found it quite hard going. we parked opposite McDonalds for £5 and then had a 250 metre walk to the away end down a slope, and once inside you have to work your way through hundreds of supporters (queing for refreshments)to the seats. On entering the stand you are half way up out of the stand' and then you walk down about 30 steps to your seats at pitch side level' and as i had a helper i had to hold onto his shoulder for support, the seats are a little cramped and uncomfortable. The view of the game was virtauly non-existant as every time supporters stood up the stewards stood up blocking your view, we did not get refreshments. After the game the steward took us out of a side gate used by wheelchairs(but if you are able or with help to go up steps, i would recomend you do this, as the side gate was nowhere where we wanted to be) when we got to back of the stand (away end) the police had closed the gates for 15/20 to seperate supporters, luckily we only waited a few minutes and they opened the gates. WAIT for the gates to be opened, as its a very long walk back to McDonalds.
Date submitted : Monday 20th Aug 2007 By : ?Brian Wright When visited The Hawthorns Stadium : 18 August 2007 Event : PNE Comments : Comments :My first visit to WBA since 1972 and I must say the stewards couldn't have been more helpful so an improvement on earlier posts. Had no trouble parking in the factory next door (£5). If anything, from what I could see the police were only active at the away end almost as if they were expecting trouble (or perhaps they treat away fans at all games the same) Needless to say it was trouble free. The facilities were good but the view was not great being near the corner flag and below the level of the pitch.
Date submitted : Thursday 3rd Aug 2006 By : Steve Caswell When visited The Hawthorns Stadium : every week Event : versus Comments : I am a disabled season ticket holder at The Hawthorns and have always been impressed with facilities/parking...however I obviously only use the Home ends
I must say that I am appalled at the reviews on this board. All I can do is apologise for what seems to be terrible treatment, this is NOT on. I can assure you all that I will be taking this up with the club and also the WBA Disabled supporters club
Date submitted : Tuesday 10th May 2005 By : Gunner on Wheels When visited The Hawthorns Stadium : May 2005 Event : versus Arsenal Comments : Comments : Perhaps more should try to get Club involved. A letter to the Chairman seems to have made a difference as I found the stewards were very helpful, and not intrusive or obstructing in any way. Of course I do not like sitting behind the goal, but as we were near corner flag the view was comparable with most away wheelchair positions. Few grounds give any away supporters (able bodied or disabled)the best view in the gorund do they?
Unsure of access to bar, as one steward said it was impossible in chair, another said go out of stadium and back in a different gate ?
Parking was available as with most grounds for a £5 in a factory complex nearby, no great problem and the ground is very easy to find and once out of the parking area was quick enough to escape from.
Like many grounds, if it looks like rain, you will need weather proof gear. Again a very common fault at grounds at all levels of the game
Date submitted : Monday 31st Jan 2005 By : Chris Brown When visited The Hawthorns Stadium : Sat 29th Jan, 2005 Event : Tottenham Comments : Comments :I'm afraid I can only re-iterate the comments of those above. Quite honestly these people (stewards) ruined my day out and I'm extremely upset about it. One steward in particular seemed to enjoy blocking our view,I'm sure he was smirking at us at one point. The Spurs disabled fans and escorts were polite at all times in requesting he sit down but to no avail. This club's approach and attitude to visiting disabled fans is a disgrace and I can only follow the lead of the Bolton/West Ham fans and say that I will NEVER return to the Hawthorns again
Date submitted : Friday 15th Oct 2004 By : John Brown When visited The Hawthorns Stadium : 2004 Event : versus Bolton Comments : Absolutly shocking, this ground needs alot of work to be done for the disabled untill i go back there. I have heard there is good access for the home surporters, but not for the away. i found this too, and stewards seem to look down there nose at you. i heard the term 'cripple' shouted out a few times outside the ground which is awful to hear!
IM NEVER GOING BACK!!
Date submitted : Monday 8th Dec 2003 By : Gill Fowler When visited The Hawthorns Stadium : Saturday 6th Dec 2003 Event : West Ham Comments : Similar experience to Grahame (Sunderland fan) above - officious stewards insisted on standing up in front of the away disabled area throughout the game and when we tried to explain to the Chief Steward that we couldn't see he first ignored us then was very unpleasant. At the end of the game the stewards barred our way out for a period (for our own safety apparently, but I couldn't see why) and their general attitude was confrontational. This is the worst treatment I have ever experienced at a football ground and will not be returning to The Hawthorns unless they sort out their heavy-handed stewarding.
Date submitted : Sunday 23rd Nov 2003 By : Gina Contratto When visited The Hawthorns Stadium : November 2003 Event : Reading Comments : I agree with all the comments already posted, especially with Grahame's.
We arrived to the ground late after having got lost and the match had started. Parking was nil and four different stewards had absolutely no idea where to direct us to get in. We finally just wandered into a open gate where we thought the away fans were. There someone finally directed us back around to where we had come from to this little door where a very tiny sign indicated where the access was.
To find that it was pitch level - below pitch level even, was very disappointing, especially since we had come from a point on the first tier where disabled spaces could have been accomodated with a little tweaking.
Lots needs to be done to this ground to get it up to standard. West Brom fans though were very pleasant and we even ate some dinner with some at a local place.
Date submitted : Tuesday 26th Aug 2003 By : Barbara McCombs When visited The Hawthorns Stadium : 25th August Event : Preston North End Comments : Agree with previous comment, but would add NO thought for disabled fans at this ground, seating at ground level as stated but had to endure chants from home crowd when passing front in of home fans when going to toilet. NO other facilities and NO parking allowed anywhere near ground. We were directed to a waste land behind the school with nettles about a good foot high, down a one car width access road, anyone with ambulant disabilities would have serious problems getting to the ground. For a previous prem league ground this is adisgrace.
Date submitted : Sunday 17th Aug 2003 By : Martin Riley When visited The Hawthorns Stadium : August 2003 Event : Burnley Comments : Comments : Same old situation down at ground level. This time behind the goal. Another new relativly new stadium where not much thought as gone into what a disabled fan is going to see.
