A prolonged applause marked the announcement of the young voluntry and
community award that went to Darren McCombs a pupil at Ribbleton Hall High
School who had brought about single handedly a change in attitude from
Football clubs having completed a survey of all the clubs to find out the
facilities available for disabled children from 5-16 years of age.
The following extract from the Lancashire Evening Post
Darren was delighted to receive the award and gave thanks to everyone who
had voted for him and he also gave thanks to all the football clubs 83 in
total who had returned the survey forms for him to complete his research, He
then went on to say a big thankyou to his Gran who he said who had always
been there for him and had helped him to understand disability and care for
everyone. Darren also enjoyed the chance to talk with Sir Tom who also
informed Darren that he was proud of him and his achievements he was sure
both His School and his football club would also be proud of his success.a
very happy Darren then had his photo taken with Sir Tom.
Darrens speech
"Um thank you to everybody who voted for me and to all the football clubs who
sent back the survey forms so I could finish the survey 83 cubs sent them
back"
"Um Um a special thank you to mi nan who has always been there for me in
anything I do and has shown me how to understand disability and care for
every body".
I am sure anyone reading this story would like to join all at AWADS in congratulating Darren for his award and thank him for his efforts. The "Gnan" he reffers to in his speech is of course non other than the founder of AWADS Mrs B McCombs. Darren and Gran Barbara pictured
